Paper based Micro-batteries: Application of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and Metal Microparticles Dispensing Techniques

چکیده
To accommodate the down-scaling electronic industry, the energy storage changes into micro-scale or even nano-scale. Therefore, development of new methods and materials that can provide microwattsis highly needed. We focus on using thin-film solid-state micro-batteries that are basically relied on electrochemical potential difference of metals. Zinc and Copper are used as the electrodes and paper as a separator with an electrolyte layer. Two different methods were developed for the fabrication of paper batteries, physical vapor deposition (PVD) of thin films and the chemical sintering of metal microparticles. Zinc and Copper were chosen as proof-of-concept electrodes because the fabrication methods are fairly straightforward. Paper has been chosen as a separator applications mainly thanks to its high porosity and robust chemical and mechanical stability [1]. The popular ink printing technology has been explored and the results are promising including carbon nanotubes to the metal nanoparticles. Dispensing an ionic liquid using a special printer with the electrodes, researchers from UC Berkeley have achieved good results [2, 3].

Evaluation of Vapor Deposition Techniques for Membrane Pore Size Modification
The suitability of three vapor deposition techniques for pore size modification was evaluated using polycarbonate track etched membranes as model supports. A feature scale model was employed to predict the pore geometry after modification and the resulting pure water flux. Physical vapor deposition (PVD) and pulsed plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), naturally, form asymmetric na...
متن کاملReview of Physical Vapour Deposition (pvd) Techniques for Hard Coating
This paper is a review on the status of hard coating of various physical vapour deposition (PVD) techniques and compare their properties. The use of hard and wear resistant PVD coatings on cutting tools is now widespread in global manufacturing for reducing production cost and improving productivity, all of which are essential if industry is to remain economically competitive. The review includ...
متن کاملStudy of multilayer and multi-component coatings deposited using cathodic Arc technique on H-13 hot work steel for die-casting applications
Die casting process is used since long, but even today problems like erosion, corrosion, soldering and sticking affect die life. These dies undergo thermal cyclic loads from 70 oC to 600 oC during processing. Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) hard coating can play an important role in such extreme applications. In the present work, we report the use of Chromium based multila...

This study investigated the effects of deposition techniques on the microstructural and tribological properties of Ti/TiN/TiCN/TiAlN multilayer coatings onto a Custom 450 steel substrate. The coatings were produced using cathodic arc physical vapor deposition (CAPVD) and plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD). The microstructural of the coatings was evaluated using (SEM), and phase f...
متن کاملHigh throughput production of nanocomposite SiOx powders by plasma spray physical vapor deposition for negative electrode of lithium ion batteries
Nanocomposite Si/SiO x powders were produced by plasma spray physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD) at a material throughput of 480 g h-1. The powders are fundamentally an aggregate of primary ∼20 nm particles, which are composed of a crystalline Si core and SiO x shell structure. This is made possible by complete evaporation of raw SiO powders and subsequent rapid condensation of high temperature ...
